KPI trends

  • Average order value remained steady at $114 in August compared to $112 in July.
  • Wholesale volume expanded to $24,800 in August, up from $21,000 in July.

Variance narrative

  • Revenue: August finished at $118,500, which is $4,500 ahead of plan. Growth was driven by early wholesale shipments.
  • Gross margin: Gross margin dropped 0.7 percentage points from July to 56.8%. Freight surcharges on fleece inventory drove the compression.
  • Cash burn: Net burn increased to $16,400 because of supplier prepayments logged in Xero.

What to flag

  • Runway trend: Runway fell from 20 to 18 months under current burn assumptions. Hale Morrow will likely ask about hiring plans for the store manager and senior ecommerce engineer.
  • Unreconciled entry: A $3,200 freight charge from August 28 lacks a matching receiving log in Xero. It is flagged here instead of estimated in gross margin.

Automation steps. Your assistant follows these 4 steps each time it runs, using your connected email and calendar.

  1. 01

Ahead of each board meeting, assemble my reporting pack.

  2. 02

Pull the month's financials and KPIs from wherever I keep them and build a four-period comparison so the trend is obvious: revenue, margin, burn, cash and runway, and the KPIs my board watches.

  3. 03

Write the variance narrative: what moved against plan and prior period, and why.

  4. 04

Add a short "what to flag" section for the numbers that will draw questions, and flag anything that didn't reconcile rather than guessing a number.

Adjust the automation in chat

Tell your assistant what to do differently and it sets up that version for you.

  • Include a breakdown of headcount expenses by department.
  • Run this 2880 minutes before the board meeting instead.
  • Add customer acquisition cost to the KPI trends table.

Results arrive as a message from your assistant. Each run posts to your conversation with your assistant, and can email you too. The automation keeps a log in your knowledge base and reads it before each run to see what has changed.

What starts this automation

Runs 3 days before a meeting with “board” in its title. When you add it, choose the lead time and which meeting titles to match.

Only useful reports

When nothing needs attention, the run says so in a line or stays quiet. When there are findings, you get them with a link to the full run.

What it does on its own

Assembles the report and saves the document on its own. Shares nothing externally. An automated run has no tool that sends, posts, shares, or deletes anything.

This automation reads your email and calendar. Connect Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 to Fieldwork. The automation uses whichever you connect. It also uses your accounting, files when connected.

Questions about this automation.

How do I set this up?
Open your assistant on the Agents page in Fieldwork, locate Board reporting pack in the library, and select Add. The setup card connects Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 along with Xero, and you can adjust the lead time before saving.
Where do the reporting pack and updates arrive?
Fieldwork posts the report directly in your assistant conversation and can send a copy to your email inbox. When no upcoming board meetings appear on your calendar, it stays quiet.
Does the assistant share the pack with board members?
No. The assistant compiles the figures and saves the file in your document storage, but it never emails attendees, shares links externally, or modifies calendar events.
What happens if accounting records do not reconcile?
The assistant highlights any discrepancy directly in the narrative instead of guessing values or forcing numbers to balance. You can review and clear the flagged items in your accounting software before sharing the pack.

Agents only see what the person asking can see. Conversations, files, apps and connections stay private until shared, and admins have no way into conversations.

  • Encryption and isolation

Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Each user's code runs in its own microVM, and secrets reach models by name only.
